I'm sorry my loyal followers, I know I've neglected you all. Well let's try to cover these last 3 months ok? I think it's probably better to just post everything as of now instead of coving that large amount of time in one blog post.

I'm still working full-time, which hopefully will continue once I go back to college this upcoming semester. Yes I will be going back to college, I finally got most of the kinks in my college plan figured out. I am meeting with a counselor next Wednesday to confirm what I have to be accurate. It turns out I am actually 1 year ahead of where I originally thought I was in my college career. What I thought was General Education was actually part of my Lower Core Division Business MIS classes. Technical names aside, it means I am done with my GE and only need one class to finish the first part of my ACTUAL major. From the looks of things I still have ~2 years to go, but it's much better than what I expected. Chico is raising their tuition prices however, by $400 a semester from what I hear. That means a wallet-tightening $2,200 a semester along with books. That averages out to roughly $6,000 a year, about 1/3 of my total income. Needless to say I'm hoping for some scholarships or financial aid. Maybe being on my own for a year and having divorced parents will be enough of a "sob story" to get some money coming my way.

Enough about work and school, how about some play. Ultimate has started back up on Tuesdays, which is sooooo nice. It's our second week of two pickup games a week. It feels so good to be out doing something physical, and having the less competitive crowd is always nice. Kristina and I haven't been dancing lately because we have lost interest with the original teachers we had been seeing. We were supposed to be dancing in a showcase in May, but the teachers didn't end up teaching the one dance we signed up for, and they just cut my swing dance because we couldn't make it to their practices on weekends. We still plan on going to Bill and Debbies lessons every other Sunday. Those are a lot of fun, really low key and friendly people. If you ever want to go, we practice at the main entrance at Neighborhood Church every other Sunday at 7PM.

Motivation

Yes finally an update, just shy under 3 months. I am not going to lie, I haven't really been too busy to update this blog. I just haven't really had any motivation to actually update. With all of the social networks like MySpace and Facebook, it seems easier to let people know what's going on that way instead. However, there are several die-hard blog followers out there, so this is basically for you. I'll try to go chronologically so that I can try to paint an accurate picture of my life as of late.

College classes ended in mid December, thank goodness. Kristina and I went to her aunt's for Christmas dinner #1, then proceeded to my aunt's for dinner #2. New years was fun, we went to a dance that basically sucked. After about an hour we went home and had some people over and brought in the new year. The winter break was nice, it gave me a chance to enjoy being away from school and catch up on finances again. However, when it came time to register for classes I found out that Shasta was only offering 1 of the classes I could take toward my major. The other ones I need are only offered in the Fall semester. Being so close to classes starting, Chico wouldn't let me re-register to take classes with them either. So this all adds up to me taking a nice long break of working full time and no college classes.

So far it's been nice having no homework or tests to prep for. I've been doing a lot of personal learning, mainly photography related material. I'm trying to get my photography site up so I can possibly sell a few of my photographs a month to make some extra money on the side. I've recently realized that I really don't like my job. I like what I do, but not at my current job. I looked up the average wages for Redding and my position, and needless to say I'm well underpaid. The average was ~$40k, the lower 15-20% was $29k, and I made a whopping $18.5. So not only am I underpaid, but I'm getting screwed over on my benefits too. They won't let me be fulltime because I plan on going to school again, but I can't be part time because I work 40 hours a week, AND I can't be temporary because I've worked here more than a year.

Needless to say I am going to look for a new job, or find solutions to the problems I have now. There's always the possibility of the job down in Sacramento, there would certainly be more to do hehe.

Just Going Along

After doing so much last month, November seems to be creeping by. Well, it is actually going by very fast, but I just don't feel like I've done much of anything. Next week is Thanksgiving, and I feel as if it should be the beginning of November. I guess it's just weird having free weekends again, more or less. I'm not saying I've been doing absolutely nothing though. Last Friday a group of eight of us went down to Sacramento to Midtown Stomp to do some social dancing. That was a blast, there was a lot of really good people there. For the first time I felt as if I was actually catching some looks from other good people, it was an amazing feeling!

Speaking of dancing, Michelle and I have been taking intermediate East Coast swing lessons. We decided to do Intermediate Salsa and East Coast Swing for the showcase in May/June. I'm really looking forward to those two dances. East Coast is my preferred dance to do since I like the overall feel of the dance, but we also learned a bit of Salsa back at our workshop in Chico. Salsa is a different animal so to say. My style of EC Swing is "snappy" or "jazzy", whatever you want to call it. Salsa however is a more fluent dance, at least for me anyways. You could easily do more of a ballroom looking swing and a flashy salsa, it's just how I interpret it. I am eager to get our DVD we ordered from the workshop. It has every lesson taught, so I will be able to refresh my memory and see the classes we missed.

Aside from dancing, life is pretty much just plugging along. I'm still sick of school, and I'm not even sure I will be going next semester. I'll have to pay Chico tuition prices, and I don't see myself having the money anytime soon. If I do end up not going, at least I will get a break and catch up on my finances. As far as the personal life goes, I can't say it's been crazy, but it's definitely been changing. My parent separated recently, which is perfectly fine. We're all adults now, so their decisions don't affect me anymore. It's not that I don't care, I just understand that people have their problems, so you have to do what you have to do.

As far as my personal life goes, I have a sticky situation brewing in my love life. I know it seems like every relationship I go into tends to be complicated haha. I won't go into depth since it's a really volatile situation right now, but once it gets settled I'll give the whole story. This last week I have felt like a completely different person. I've done a lot of things I usually wouldn't do. Not necessarily bad, just different than what I'm used to. I think it's good to push your comfort zones occasionally, even if you didn't like it. At least you can say I didn't like this, or I did like that. If you never changed, what would you say when you looked back on your life?

Salsa Masta

It's been a little while since I blogged, I've had a bit to write about so I wanted to do it in one swoop. First off, Long Beach was a blast. Katie was very nice and tried hard to find things to do while I was down there. We cruised through downtown LB and even went to Hollywood Blvd. I spent a good few hours the day before I left wandering around on my own. I cruised by the beach and played around in the sand for a while, then went and got some pizza and a pint to wrap up my day. As usual, there's pictures from my phone on my flickr and myspace.

Speaking of phone, I finally got my iPhone. Needless to say, it is absolutely amazing. I can't count how many times it saved my but on my trip when I was lost or just wandering, I just hopped on the maps and found my way around. I am incredibly broke because I bought this phone haha, but I suppose it was worth it. Since I was away from technology my entire trip (more or less), I have that inner nerd screaming to get my hands on something electronic. What better to toy with than a new iPhone? I've spent the past few days pimping out my phone so everyone can get a hold of me by any means possible.

Last night we had our dance out at the IOOF Hall in Palo Cedro. Michelle and I actually taught a lesson in Casino Rueda Salsa before the dance started. I thought we could have done better, but we got nothing but positive feedback. Everyone seemed to have fun, and I was impressed at how fast everyone was able to pick up the steps. This Friday we're going to Sacramento to Midtown Stomp, which is a fancy swing club. If anyone is interested in going we are meeting just before 5PM Friday evening at Neighborhood Church on Loma Vista, and we will return late that night.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Yup tomorrow night I drive down to Sacramento to spend the night with my friend Fon, then I fly out in the morning to Long Beach! I find it rather ironic that the first vacation I take in 5+ years randomly coincides with half of Southern California going up in flames. I don't care if I have to fly that plane through the smoke myself, I will make it down to LB haha. Thursday night until Tuesday night I will pretty much be incommunicado. I won't have my computer, and I'll most likely turn my phone off so I can actually relax and get away from work/school/people.

This last weekend was our CHUG tournament we were preparing for for months. We did very well for being a slack team consisting of players anywhere from 17 to 40+, and only doing pickup games twice a week. We made it to finals of the B Division (or whatever it's called). We won 3 of our 7 games, much better than last year only winning 1. We beat Davis, a team with nearly twice as many players. Needless we were very proud. I've got pictures of the tournament on my myspace and flickr. The registration ended today but if anyone wants info on it Google search Chico Dance Sensation. They have a lot of stuff going on in those 4 days. Essentially registration starts at 9AM, then classes start at 10AM, then free dancing and competitions start at around 4-5PM. The free dancing lasts until 7AM and the process starts all over again at 9. Michelle, our two dance instructors and myself are the only ones going from our group. I am excited to see how amazed everyone will be when we get back. It's going to be a lot of dancing hehe.

I can't believe our CHUG tourney is next weekend. We are so unprepared for that level of playing. I guarantee half of the people playing will get there and be amazed at the difference between our games and theirs. We only have 3 practices left and wouldn't you know it, we got RAINED on. It was still really fun playing in the rain, but I don't think we got the desperately needed drills we had hoped for.

Jampacked?

Lately I've learned to love iCal. I tend to have a lot of stuff going on outside of my normal work and school, so having some form of organization is proving invaluable haha. I finally got enough money coming in to afford taking a few days off work and traveling to Long Beach to visit Katie, like I promised. I had to check my calendar because I remembered having a lot of things tying up my weekends. Sure enough, aside from this weekend and the weekend before Halloween I am fully booked until mid November!

We have CHUG coming up in October 20th and 21st. For those who don't know what CHUG is it's a large ultimate frisbee tournament in Chico. We had our first practice this last Saturday in preparation for the tournament. We have a lot of work ahead of us, the teams that will be there are incredibly good. The weekend before that I am signing up for a 3 day Lindy Hop workshop in Chico. I've learned to love Lindy Hop more so than any other dance I've done so far. Meringue and EC Swing are both fun, as is Waltz, but Lindy is so much more energetic and fun with your partner!

Speaking of dancing, we had a 3 hour dance following a Meringue lesson on Sunday. It was so much fun I can't describe it. We danced to Salsa, Meringue, Argentine Tango, Samba, East and West Coast Swing, Lindy, Waltz, Cha Cha, and probably some others I can't remember. Our dance instructor actually asked me if I would be willing to dance in their Showcase in May! It's amazing to think of my first lesson at the beginning of Summer, I could barely follow the foot steps. Now I'm being asked to represent the school. I'll keep people posted on dance dates if anyone wants to come out and dance it up.

Couple of Weeks

Yea I know I haven't updated in a while, even though I said I would make an effort to try. Things have been a bit busy since college started back up. Essentially I'm pretty much packed with work/school/studying until Thursday nights. Tuesdays I go 7AM - 10:30PM with my half hour breaks to commute to and from work and school. I suppose all the work is worth it though; I am slowing chipping away at finishing college, and make enough to live on my own and still have fun when I can.

As far as actual "fun stuff" goes there hasn't been a whole lot going on. We haven't had swing on Sundays for 3 or 4 weeks now, but I believe the classes will be starting back up this Sunday. I've been seriously missing swing, I didn't realize how much fun it is. We had a Waltz class last Wednesday and again tonight, but it's not nearly as fun. Ultimate has been Ultimate as usual. We've got a few good players leaving to college, so we are always looking for more people to come out.

Aside from dancing and ultimate, we went to Club 151 last Friday. It was pretty neat, definitely a different scene than a bar. I don't think it would be a place to go every Friday or anything like that, but on a rare occasion it would be fun. After the club Ross Rob and I came back to our place and proceeded to get wasted in front of Michelle. After Michelle left Pam came over and watched us act like retards. The next night Rob Julia and Robert from Ultimate all got together and played a drinking game at our place. I'm definitely over the drinking phase of turning 21. I'm glad I got it out of my system. I still drink occasionally, but not as much as those first few days.

Friday I'm going to Chico to visit David and LC and whoever else happens to be down there. I'll have to leave mid day so I can make it back in time for Ultimate. I missed last Saturday's game because I wanted to go to Stassia's sister Jenene's wedding. David and LC were there, and Stassia was the Maid of Honor. She was really nervous about her speech. She came over the night before and we worked on it for a while. She ended up doing an amazing job, just as good if not better than the Best Man's. After Saturday, I will hopefully be able to knock out homework and veg the rest of the day. Knowing college life though it probably won't happen, but there's still wishful thinking!

Surviving 21

Yes in case anyone was curious, I did live through my 21st birthday. I had decided the night before that I didn't want to get completely messed up to the point of puking and passing out. I ended up living up to what I had anticipated, lots of fun but no aftermath. 7 of us went to Outback for dinner, which was a riot. Afterwards we went home really fast and dropped our cars off and Becca took us to Bombays. At first I was a little skeptical, the place was pretty much dead. There was a group of about 8 of us in a circle next to the stage, and a few people at the bar, and that was it. Toward 9 or so people started coming over from Marketfest, and the bar ended up being pretty packed. They had a band from San Fran playing, so at least there was some good music while we drank. Around 9:30 we walked ourselves back to the car and Becca drove us home where we proceeded to watch Eurotrip for nakedness, and drink more.

Friday I woke up pretty late, and enjoyed not being hung over and away from work. Stassia came over a little after 3 to head to Chico. Before she showed however, I heard someone starting to open our door. I figured it was Rob so I wanted to greet him before we left. To my surprise it was some guy I've never seen before. I guess he had the wrong house, it was a little freaky since I thought the door was locked. Anyways, Stass and I got into Chico and met at Dave's apartment. We ordered a pizza, got some movies, bought some beer, and made a night out of it.

Stassia and I headed back to Redding around 11 or so, and I basically just lounged around until 1-2 when I headed to my parents to wait for my family party. We had about 12 people at Round Table, it was fun to see everyone again and exchange stories. I sat there having a good time, drinking my beer. I have to say my favorite part was seeing my cake. It consisted of a typical "Happy 21st" written on it, but it also had 6 mini bottles of Jager, Tanqueray, and Jose Cuervo sticking out of it. Leave it to my parents to surprise almost everyone. I can safely say I don't think I would have changed anything about my past few days. Thank you everyone who called or saw me and wished me a happy birthday.

Finally 21

Yup I finally turned. It's pretty much like everyone says, it's not as amazing as it seems like it would be. I mean I got a giddy feeling as I walked down the aisles last night trying to decide what booze I wanted to buy, knowing no one could tell me to move along. We did however have a funny moment at FoodMax, apparently they don't serve to a person until 24 hours after their birthday... I can only imagine what anal retentive executive of the store sat down one day and thought that up. We laughed and went to WinCo and got stuff there and headed back home. Rob and I were the only ones drinking, Michelle was our camera gal watching us act like idiots. I can safely say though, that if you want to get messed up don't eat dinner and drink Rockstars with Vodka.

I don't think I'm going to get completely smashed over the next few days. Last night was fun but possibly a little too much. I feel having your 21st birthday is about going out and seeing what you've been missing, not getting sick and passing out. As long as I have friends to hang out and get a bit faded with, I wouldn't want anything more. We'll just have to see if I can get away with that excuse when we're actually out there haha.

Oh and we also received our dog Rowdy earlier this week. He's a loyal pet, always waiting patiently for us when we get home from work. He also makes a good footrest haha. I'll post pictures when I get around to it.

Initial Thoughts

Yea, school has started. As usual, Summer didn't seem nearly long enough. So far though I have some good initial impressions. So far I like all of my teachers, tonight I will meet my last one. I already have homework, consisting of reading 2 chapters and doing some bookwork. Luckily I was smart and ordered my books last week, so I can get a head start. It has been kind of neat, I've been branching out and getting to know more people. I can't really help but go somewhere on campus and see someone I know. One of the women that works at my office shares my Business Law class, and a buddy of mine from math last semester has both of my Accounting and African American Literature classes with me.

I was really bummed to hear that our swing dance class was ending for a while. We start back up September 16th, but that is still a good ways away. We're going to try and get groups together in between so we don't get rusty. At least I still have ultimate for a few more months. I can't go tonight or Saturday, so I will be anxious I'm sure to play next Tues. The bee sting I received Saturday ended up being a big pain in the ass. My ankle swelled up really bad and won't stop hurting. I took a picture today to show I'm not just being a big baby.

Ross' Pre-21st B-Day

Saturday was Ross' 21st birthday party. It was so much fun! We played this really entertaining drinking game called "Drinkmaster says" and essentially you do whatever is on the card. They ranged anywhere from switching shirts backwards the fastest to ending every sentence with a movie/tv quote.

Tony and his girlfriend Ashley went out and bought him a little girl cake and a blowup sheep about an hour after we started drinking. Needless to say things got pretty crazy after that, tons of sheep jokes and jokes about Cottonwood. Later Tony started videotaping Ross when he was completely wasted, I'm sure the video will be on youTube eventually. I guess according to mySpace Ross woke up a few hours ago and spent some time talking to Ralph on the big porcelain phone then went back to sleep haha.

Aside from Ross' party, we had a very good couple games of Ultimate. The last 2 points of the last game I managed to get stung on the ankle by a bee. I ran over and flushed it out and still managed to hop back in and score the final point, woooooh! Tonight is our swing class, I think Julia and Aaron will be coming, so it should be a hoot. I think the class may be ending though, with school starting and all. I'm going to try and persuade the people who organize it to continue.

My Last Friday

Today's my last Friday before going back to classes. I'd say I had a good run this Summer. I got into swing dancing, back into Ultimate, made pretty good money, not too shabby if I say so myself. It's been a few days since I've blogged, namely because I didn't really do anything worth writing about.

Tuesday was a blast. I did the usual 9-6 work day, then headed on over to Simpson College where my friend Michelle was having a little get together with some people in their Dorm Lounge. We played some games and did a little swing on the side. It was adventureous swing dancing there because it's against the rules to shake your hips at Simpson... I broke out a bit early and went to Ultimate to get my exercise. This time was so much fun, we ran our arses off. Every game I played had a bunch of really fun people, so we would end up having races back to the other side after a point to determine who subbed out. It sounds stupid, but when you see grown men running and screaming their heads off across a field, you can't help but laugh.

After Ultimate Rob and I went back to our place where we had setup our new couch. We can now officially seat 8 people comfortably, 12 if we drag down chairs. We watched Beerfest while he and I had a few to celebrate a fun night. Other than Tuesday nothing has really been happening. Rob had softball last night and they pretty much got destroyed by the other team haha. Tomorrow night Ross is having a pre-21 birthday bash, so I'm going over there to get him smashed haha.

To anyone who reads this, if you want to hang out on my birthday and you're 21+ go to Bombay's around 7-8ish or call me. We'll be drinking it up there for a while, then we'll probably head back to my place and do fun stuff there with my friends under 21.

I'm a Swinger!

Only one more week until school, sigh. August 20th has been looming ominously in my calendar. It will give me a nice break from working standard 9-6 days, but having an extra 12 hours+ a week of school plus homework doesn't really appeal as well. I've been trying to cram as much fun stuff into my last week as possible.

Friday night there was a play/musical at Shasta College that I had wanted to go to, but after work I just didn't have it in me to sit and watch it. Instead Rob and I invited people over for movies. While we waited for people to show we went to WinCo and got some steaks to make dinner. We introduced Michelle and Jordan and Nick to the horrors of Borat haha, needless to say mission accomplished!

Saturday I went down to Chico to help Stassia move her stuff back to Redding. I am amazed at how much we could cram into a truck and Honda Civic. Knowing the two of us, we ended up leaving with a few bumps and bruises (cough hand cough). After we finished moving we went to a lovely free dinner to Applebees and made asses of ourselves in front of the waitresses. And finally to finish off the night I went on over to Becka's to watch a scary movie with her and Rob.

Sunday I basically didn't do crap, I won't lie haha. Sundays are usually my recovery days from ultimate frisbee, so I just lounge around until 6 when I get ready for swing dancing. I forgot however that our guy instructor was going to be gone, so I actually got to teach most of the class this time. Bill showed up later so we both made our rounds helping people, which was nice because he knows more than I do. I'm just glad no one died, normally that's the story when I teach something haha.

Corporate Life, Pffft

So here I sit at work, writing in my blog, browsing youtube, reading through all of my rss feeds. The last 2 weeks or so I literally have done next to nothing for my paychecks. Everyone tells me I'm lucky to have a job that pays somewhat well, for a college student that is, and you are required to do nothing. Personally it drives me nuts, I LOATHE being lazy or not doing anything. I was taught there there is no such thing as a free lunch. I have always earned what I have, and lately work has been forcing me to do the opposite.

I tend to think to myself however, that I am getting amazing experience at how NOT to run a business when I hopefully start my own down the road. I have tried to go find work around the office, even work not IT related. My boss always shuts me down and tells me it's not my job and I should leave it alone. Today one of the groups of people are switching rooms, and have to move all of their computers around. This is easily a 2+ hour job, so I volunteered the second I heard about it. My boss being the leader he is, said and I quote "Get someone who cares to do it, that's what maintenance crews are for". I am literally sitting doing nothing and yet I can't go help out.

I seriously don't understand how this department has survived with this attitude. I have seen McDonald's run more efficiently than this place. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for my job and all that I have learned. I am just really sick of how one person can completely screw over so many people. I never figured I would hear myself complaining about not working enough at my job haha.

Been a Hard Day's Night

Man for being a Saturday it has been pretty intense. I had Ultimate Frisbee tonight, and man was it a fun one. Normally we usually just play man-on-man and work on our cuts and call it good, but tonight we switched it up. Some of the regulars play in tournaments and are on a whole different level than the rest of us, so they decided to teach us some new positions. We tried playing "zones" and a technique called the cup. Essentially someone calls zone and 3 of the designated people rush up to the puller (the person with the disk) and basically force them to throw a bad throw between each of us. We however learned a technique called "crashing the cup" to protect against it. To do it, a middle player on the offense runs toward one of those gaps between the people in the cup. This causes the people in the cup to break formation and try to block that throw, thus giving the puller a better throw. If the people in the cup don't break then the middle runner usually gets the disk and throws to the next available puller.

Like I said it was some pretty professional playing, I was excited to learn it. The only problem is when playing cup, you force the puller to usually throw a bomb pass to one of the zones to try and get rid of it. If you're in the cup you try and block that throw, but man are they booking. I got in front of one and got a severe shot to the forearm.

After Ultimate a group of us went to In N Out to have some celebratory delicious burgers. When we got there, I realized my tire was basically flat. We went in and ate really fast then I drove home and threw on the pansy looking spare until I can take it to have it replaced/fixed. Nothing better after a long hard game of ultimate than changing a tire haha. When I got in I was coated in brake dust and road grime and probably other things I don't want to know about.

Busy But Fun

Yesterday seemed like a 36 hour day, not necessarily a bad thing though. I'm sure tired this morning having gone to bed around 3AM, but I definitely had a blast yesterday. I worked my usual 8 hour shift at work, then went over to Little League Dreams or whatever it's called and watched my roomie play softball with his team. They pretty much got destroyed 35 to 7, but it was still fun to watch and cheer and crack jokes.

After that I headed home for a bit and played some guitar hero to unwind until I went to Erik's house for his 21st birthday. I signed up on a guitar hero scoreboard at www.scorehero.com just for fun to see how I rank in the world. Amazingly after just a few songs posted I'm already in the top 2,000. Not bad for a little Redding boy like myself.

I headed on over to Erik's house to watch his mom drink him into the floor. There was some family and friends there, overall a really fun group of people. After 2-3 drinks he started getting sickish and ended up laying on the couch, despite our comments like "pansy" and "freshman" etc. We finally headed over to Movies 11 to watch the final Bourne movie. Needless to say, it was BADASS. I couldn't think of a better way to finish an exciting day than watching Matt Damon beat some knowledge into an assassin with a book.

After that long day I find myself dragging through today, waiting for tonight where I will be wandering over to Ross' place where he is putting together a little shindig. I'm sure there will be more fun stories. Hopefully this time I won't have to risk peeing in front of girls chit-chatting in his bathroom haha.

Works In Motion

Over the past few years I've noticed that time becomes more and more valuable. I remember back in High School when I had maybe an hour of homework, then I could do anything I want. Nowadays I barely have time to run my daily errands before I have to go to sleep. Lately I've been learning a lot about how pro's use tools to become more efficient to save time in their hectic lives. Back in "the day" I would write web programs to do all my work for me, but now I've learned to use apps already in existence. RSS feeds, web templates, etc. I even converted my own blog to blogger, and this is the first post in the new format.

My friend and I recently designed a web portal to be implemented in businesses where a company can track what its workers/divisions are doing to improve the health of the company. We already have some potential buyers, and possibly quite a few more to be expected. This is really exciting because we could bring in quite a bit of money. However, there are a lot of factors we need to work through before we start selling to more people; like how will we support more than 10 or 20 copies, and what will be the limitations of the product, and so on. This also gets back to the lack of time, it takes a lot of effort to write up a Software License Agreement, and take care of all the legalities.

I'm not in a huge rush to get this project done. I want to make sure every last detail has been checked. Hopefully I'll be able to find a balance between working on this project, and staying current on my blog while still maintaining some form of a social life. I've also been taking some photos at our Ultimate Frisbee games, so hopefully I'll be able to start posting those for everyone to see.
